Pure active ingredients respecting the environment
Plant-derived ingredients play a leading role in cosmetic production. The market also requires as a priority to develop sustainable cosmetic ingredients, which have a reduced environmental impact and which are in line with the numerous “free from” market demands. Plant extracts / active ingredients are at the center of this research. Traditional extraction technologies are still mainly used to produce plant extracts.
However, several thousand potentially interesting molecules are present in plants, many of which, being covalently linked to the solid part of the plant matrix, cannot be effectively extracted with traditional technologies. Biotechnologies have been developed to overcome the limitations of conventional mining technologies. We are talking about biofermentation, enzymatic processes, cell cultures, liposomes.
